About B A Thompson

Born on All Souls Day in 1994, B A grew up in the countryside on the outskirts of Edinburgh. They fell in love with reading at a young age, particularly Victorian ghost stories and classic science fiction. Something about the dreary atmosphere of haunted houses and wild adventures into the unknown captured their imagination and has influenced their writing ever since.

B A's fascination with the unknown almost guaranteed that they'd end up in academia. After realising medicine required a lot of work and talking to people, they graduated from the University of Dundee in 2017 with a BSc of Medical Studies and a BMSc of Neuropharmacology and Behaviour, then completed a Masters by Research in Neuroscience at the University of St Andrews in 2018. They have since returned to complete their PhD in Neuroscience. Don't ask why they thought it was a good idea; the pandemic made us all go a little mad.

B A opened a business in 2014 selling bespoke calligraphy and origami artworks and, after ten years, have made over six hundred sales and commissions. They are fascinated by the history of the written word and printing, and explore the intimate relationship between a text and its reader throughout their work.
